OWASSO, Okla. (Sept. 4, 2020) — Governor Kevin Stitt today traveled to Owasso to support Folds of Honor and military families nationwide by kicking off Patriot Golf Day weekend with a ceremonial opening tee shot at The Patriot Golf Club.
Gov. Stitt joined Folds of Honor Founder and CEO Lt Col Dan Rooney, an Air Force Reserve fighter pilot, to hit synchronized tee shots while wearing commemorative flight helmets.
The 13th annual Patriot Golf Day takes place Sept. 4-7 at hundreds of golf courses across the country. Dubbed “the most heroic round you’ll ever play,” golfers are encouraged to donate above their green fees to fund scholarships for families of service members who have been killed or disabled in action.
“I cannot think of a better cause than educating the families of our heroes,” said Gov. Stitt. “It is my privilege to be here and support Folds of Honor and the $1.3 million in scholarship assistance it awarded to Oklahoma military families this school year.”
Nationally, Folds of Honor offered 3,802 scholarships for the 2020-21 academic year to the families of military members who were either wounded or killed defending our freedoms, bringing the total scholarships awarded since 2007 to over 28,000.
